Vanessa Lubach draws inspiration from the domestic life around her, especially her cats, chickens and garden birds. Jugs of home-grown flowers form a series of still lives based upon windowsills and mantelpieces. Her distinctive colour palette and use of pattern combine with the delicate carving to create an accomplished body of work.
Each linocut begins with an observational drawing focussing on how light creates form. The designs are worked up through multiple sketches to plan for the many individual colour layers before carving begins. Vanessa currently hand burnishes her linocuts with a spoon in her Norwich studio.
