Winifred Nicholson

Winifred Nicholson was a British painter known for her impressionistic style of still-life and landscape paintings. Interested in painting from an early age Winifred Nicholson painted prolifically throughout her life generally in a representational style, though she experimented with abstraction in the 1930s while married to Ben Nicholson.She became renowned for her use of colour. Her work is held in Kettles Yard Art Gallery and the Tate Gallery as well as in private collections. She attended the Byam Shaw School of Art in London. Nicholson developed a personal impressionistic style, concentrating on domestic still life objects and landscapes. She often combined the two subjects.
