Ronald Rutherford was a British artist born in 1923 in Banstead, Surrey, UK. He studied German in Estonia and learned the rudiments of painting from a Russian icon painter. He trained at the Architectural Association in London and practiced as an architect in London and Rhodesia before retiring from architecture in 1973 to concentrate on painting. For the next fifteen years, he lived in the picturesque coastal town of Southwold in Suffolk where its buildings, beach and harbor were the subject of many paintings in oil and watercolour
