The Art Deco Movement (1900-1930s) was at its peak in the 1920s and the work of George Barbier is included here. He was a key influence on illustrative art and Art Deco fashion. George Barbier was an illustrator, fashion designer and writer who studied at the Ecole des Beaux- Arts in Paris. He epitomised the grace of the Art Deco movement with the bold lines and strong colours of his illustrations, created by building up layers of colour in gouache paint.
