Branwen, daughter of Lyr, was a Queen, possibly goddess, who features in the Second Branch of the Mabinogi, which tells how war broke out between Wales and Ireland. Her father was a sea deity, and she was unhappily married to the King of Ireland Matholwch. Her brother was Bran (Bendigeidfran), a giant and high king of Britain, and likely a deity as well. Branwen could have meant White Raven. The locations in Wales associated with her are predominantly in Northern Snowdonia and Anglesey.
